Prajapati's Request

Pajapati Gotami, the Buddha's aunt and stepmother, asked the Buddha permission to become a nun. The Buddha refused to grant her permission knowing that the disciplinary rules would be a hardship on the queen. But after the queen’s repeated attempts, the Buddha agreed to ordain her.
