He arose and broke the austerities. As his former garments had perished,
he took a yellow shroud from the corpse of a servant girl awaiting cremation
nearby. A local Brahmin's daughter, Sujata, approached and offered him a
bowl of rice and milk. Renewed in body and mind, he proceeded to a nearby
fig tree. On the eastern side of the tree he made himself a seat from kusha
grass offered by a graincutter. His five ascetic companions were disgusted
and departed to Banares. |
